Showing Patience Is Not Easy For Some!

Colossians 3:12

12Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

As people of God – the chosen people – the called of God – we are called to be holy and to cloth ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. As you start your day today – think on this passage and the call to live in compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Where in your day could you show more patience?  According to Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary – patience is the capacity, habit, or fact of being patient. Being patient means (among other things): bearing pains or trials calmly or without complaint, being steadfast despite opposition, difficulty, or adversity.  Examples might include – not losing your cool on 495/695 when the traffic is backed up and you are in a hurry – or keeping your cool when the children/grandchildren don’t listen – again.

How can you show patience to those around you today?  If you are not normally a patient person – showing patience at work or at home will blow away your co-workers or family for sure.  Respond rather than react to situations.  Count to ten before you respond rather than react to a given circumstance.  Think about the person you are interacting with and try to understand their true intent rather than the immediate thought.  Pray about how you should respond to a given situation instead of reacting off the moment.  Look around you today and seek places where you could show the patience of God.  Can you think of some ways you could share?  If so – send something to the blog page.

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.

To Be Humble Is To Be Like Christ

Colossians 3:12

12Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

As people of God – the chosen people – the called of God – we are called to be holy and to cloth ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. As you start your day today – think on this passage and the call to live in compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Where in your day could you show more humility?  According to Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary – humility is the quality or state of being humble. Humble means: not proud or haughty: not arrogant or assertive.  Examples might include – giving God the glory for the things others want to credit to you.  Being humble may not come easily for some – but if we wish to be like Jesus – like Christ – we will strive to deflect the credit for all that our lives accomplish and point it all to Jesus.

How can you show humility to those around you today?  One way might be to let the team take credit for something where you were primarily responsible.  Another example might be making others feel value and worth rather than tooting your own horn, so to speak.  Being a team player in the office or on the job is also a sign of humility.  Look around you today and seek places where you could show the humility of God.  Can you think of some ways you could share on the blog page?

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.

Tomorrow we will look at showing patience.

Gentleness – A Godly Character Trait We All Need to Practice

Colossians 3:12

12Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

As people of God – the chosen people – we are called to holy and to cloth ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. As you start your day today – think on this passage and the call to live the godly traits of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Where in your day could you show more gentleness?  According to Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary – to be gentle is to be free from harshness, sternness, or violence. Examples might include – when we tell our young children to be gentle with their infant sibling.  Another example might be the way we approach a wild animal – as softly and gently as possible – as to not arouse them.  To be gentle is a godly character trait we should all practice more often.  I bet it might even keep us out of trouble at times – and it might keep some situations from escalating.

I read somewhere that many police officers try to approach traffic stops with gentleness – awareness for sure because they do not know who they are stopping – but nonetheless – they are waiting to see how we might react and react to our demeanor.  The article I read said the best thing for us to do when stopped is to remain calm and do not argue with the officer who is just trying to do their job.

How can you show gentleness to those around you today?  What are those around you going through where a gentle spirit might help them?  If we approach more situations with gentleness – we might be surprised at how they end up.  Look around you today and seek places where you could show the gentleness of God.

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.

Tomorrow we will look at showing humility.

Shower Those Around You in Kindness

Colossians 3:12

12Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

As people of God – the chosen people – the called of God – we are called to be holy and to cloth ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. As you start your day today – think on this passage and the call to live in compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Where in your day could you show more kindness?  According to Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary – kindness is a kind deed or the quality or state of being kind. Examples might include – doing an act of kindness as simple as holding a door for someone, or helping someone pick up supplies that fell on the floor at work.

How can you show kindness to those around you today?  I bet there are opportunities galore.  Like letting someone with a few items at the grocer go in front of you when you have a full cart?  Like letting someone watch his or her favorite show on TV, even when it is your turn to watch what you want?  Look around you today and seek places where you could show the kindness of God.  Remember to give God the glory when they exclaim how kind you are!  Can you think of some ways you could share on the blog page?

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.

Tomorrow we will look at showing gentleness.

Showing God’s Compassion

Colossians 3:12

12Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

As people of God – the chosen people – we are called to be holy and to cloth ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. As you start your day today – meditate on this passage and the call to live in compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Where in your day could you show more compassion to others?  According to Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary – compassion is sympathetic consciousness of others’ distress together with a desire to alleviate it. Examples might include – when you show compassion to Redskins and Ravens fans for their team’s loss yesterday – even if you are a Steelers fan!  Compassion is feeling their pain – being sympathetic about the pain of others.

How can you show compassion to those around you?  What are those around you going through?  Could you lend a helping hand?  Look around you today and seek places where you could show the compassion of God.  Can you think of some ways you could share on the blog page?

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.

Tomorrow we will look at showing kindness.
