Judge Not

Matthew 7:1

1“Do not judge, or you too will be judged.”

We have all heard this one – I feel certain.  In context it goes like this:

Matthew 7:1-5 – 1“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

Judging others is so easy – almost natural (human nature).  It always seems easier to point out someone’s sins or mistakes than our own.  It always seems easier to tell others how to improve than to improve ourselves.

Jesus calls us first to leave our judging ways and to concentrate on getting our act together (taking the plant out of our own eye before we attempt to take the speck out of someone’s eye.

How about joining me today – we must start somewhere – and pledging to strive to leave a day without judging people.  Judging can be more than merely stating or pointing out an issue or shortcoming of someone.  It can be internal – our feelings toward someone – our attitude – without saying anything.  It will not be easy with some people and with some work environments – but join me as we strive to NOT JUDGE others.

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
