We Serve a Fair and Just God – Who Shows Mercy!

Deuteronomy 10:17-18

17 For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes. 18 He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the alien, giving him food and clothing.

Yesterday we looked at boasting in the Lord – that our God is the best god!  Today we want to look at the end of the 17th verse – For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes.

The gods of mythology or of the ancient world would show partiality – according to their creators.

Romans 2:11 – For God does not show favoritism.

Job 34:18-19 – 18 Is he not the One who says to kings, ‘You are worthless,’ and to nobles, ‘You are wicked,’ 19 who shows no partiality to princes and does not favor the rich over the poor, for they are all the work of his hands?

The is key for our God – God doesn’t see people for what they are on the outside – their position – their money – their skin color – their age.  God sees the heart of a person.

God also cannot be bought off – like the priests of Malachi’s day or others.  You cannot buy your way to heaven as some religious circles believe with pardons and such.  God cannot be bribed.

We have an awesome God – God is amazing and fair.  And yet beyond fair – because His grace gives us more than we could every merit – because we deserve death and hell and yet He offers us heaven as a free gift.  Amazing!

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
