God’s Grace is So Amazing – to Show Mercy to a Sinner Like Me!

1 Timothy 1:16

But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life.

I often think of this passage because I often think about my many sins and ask myself – how could God use a sinner like me – with my past and present sins.  Have you ever felt that way?  I mean – if people only knew our sins of thought – word and deed – how could they – could they – love us?  How could God use us in any capacity?

Paul felt this way because of his sins as well.  I imagine that some of the sins he felt were when he persecuted the early church before his conversion – going from Saul to Paul.  Remember the words of our Lord as he was on the road to Damascus?

Acts 9:3-4 – 3 As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”

Are there sins in your past that haunt you?  Are there sins in your present that trap you?  Surely we must strive to go and sin no more – yet it isn’t about our ability to be perfect – to be sinless – which we cannot achieve.  It is all about God’s amazing grace – and mercy.

1 Timothy 1:16 – But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life.

Stay tuned in a few weeks (starting March 13) for the upcoming sermon series on God’s Grace!  I can’t wait – cause I need God’s grace in my past and in my present.

God’s Amazing Grace – how sweet the sound – that saved a wretch like me!  I once was lost – but now am found – was blind but now I see.

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
