Finding Rest in the Lord

Matthew 11:28

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

I was at the gym the other day and saw a friend I hadn’t seen for a few years.  He is a former Terp football player and a great guy.  He was using the step machine and the sweat was pouring off of him.  I imagined that he was plenty tired.  I know I got tired today using the treadmill for an hour at a fast walk!  Have you ever been weary and tired while exercising or at any time?

I was talking to a pastor friend the other day and he was talking about being weary with some of the people in his church who were constantly negative and angry.  It didn’t seem to matter what they were talking about – some people in his church were simply negative about everything.  Have you had such an experience in your place of work, in your family, or in your circle of friends?

Recently we have been looking at several candidates for Youth Director here at Mt. Oak Fellowship and we have had some good ones apply for sure.  Some of them seemed nervous or anxious when we had Skype interviews with them this past Saturday.  Interviewing for a new job can be a stressful time.  Have you ever had an anxious moment?  Have there been times in your life when you weren’t sure of the next moment?

I visited a friend in the hospital recently and there was concern on his face as he faced major surgery.  I told him I would be concerned as well – and that I would be nervous – not about my eternity (or his) but about life and death.  Have you had major surgery or any surgery?  Were you nervous?  Are there other things in your life that make you nervous of anxious?

Have you ever been nervous – anxious – weary – tired?  Has life come upon you and given you reason to be concerned?

Peter writes; 1 Peter 5:7 – Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.  Jesus says; Matthew 11:28 – Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

In all we face in life we can turn to God for solace – for rest!

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
