No Electricity

Romans 5:6
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.

We’re back from Haiti – where there was no electricity – unless we ran a generator – and when it got dark – it was dark! Being powerless was something that hit us quickly. I for one went to bed as soon as it got dark. Darkness brings with it the things people do in the dark that they would not do in the light. I decided – I felt powerless enough – and wasn’t going to give darkness anymore power over me. I went to bed at 8 – 8:30 pm each night and rose around 4:30-5 am each day – just before the dawn. I spent the last hour of darkness in prayer and reading as I awaited the dawn.

Without power – without electricity – there wasn’t much we could do at night. We wore these little headlamps so we could see to walk to the bathroom or to get some more water – but they were limited in scope and were only good for brief moments.

We also realized quickly that the only lasting power was the power that God gave us through the work of the Holy Spirit – in us – through us – and in spite of us. If you are without power still today – don’t blame it all on Pepco or BGE – seek your power from the One who has all power! Seek after the Holy Spirit power that comes to those who seek after Jesus! You see – at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly – that is you and me!

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.

  1. Rev Ray – This could be your most timely message ever! I had a moment on Saturday when I thought about how I had all these plans for the weekend and how with a might storm God changed all of those showing me who was really in control. And it’s not me! I think that is the hardest lesson to learn as Christian. That no matter what we think God is completely in control and that He truly inst concerned out our comfort but about building character.

Thank you for sharing this timely message and for giving us all some food for thought today. Be blessed and stay cool!
