Lighting the Path

Psalm 119:105

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.

RevRayRecently during one of the many storms that have hit this spring the threat was for widespread power failure – or at least the potential for power outages because of the expected high winds and heavy rains.  We scrambled to find our flashlights before we went to bed that night just to be prepared.  A flashlight can be a very helpful tool when all of the lights go out and you need to get up in the dark for any reason.

Have you ever been in the dark?  Have you ever needed a little light?  I remember camping in the woods on Skyline Drive as a child and wondering off from camp before dark only to be caught away from camp in the dark without a flashlight (I was a boy scout but wasn’t prepared).  As it got dark dad lit a lamp in camp and I followed the light of that lamp back to camp.

Today’s passage reminds us that God’s word is our lamp – Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.  Being a student of the word of God will give us the tools to light a path in the darkness of our day.  We need to be regular in our reading and searching of the Bible my friends.

Do you have a devotional time where you spend time reading the Bible each day?  It is hard to find your way back to the camp in the darkness if your flash light has no batteries (because the ones you have in the flashlight have worn down).  The lamp in camp will not light the way if it doesn’t have fuel – fuel we get through constantly reading the Word of God.  Get charged up my friends and allow the word of God to light the path in front of you.

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
