Let Your Light Shine

Matthew 5:16

In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

profileI had a friend when I was a teen who put a side light – a search light – on his car (like the police had/have).  It was awesome – we could shine a light in any direction.  We used it to help us see to pull a friend’s car out of a ditch in the dark.  It shined in the darkness and allow us to work to free our friend’s car.

I remember camping as a youth in Boy Scouts.  A flashlight was always a helpful piece of equipment when night-time came upon us.  If we needed to go out in the dark – say to the bathroom or to the shower or to get some water/food – it was helpful to have a flashlight to shine in the darkness.

I remember a time when we lost power at home.  Having flashlights and lanterns to shine in the darkness was very helpful.  We could find our bed – we could find our children – and they could find us.  The light shined in the darkness and the darkness could not put it out!

Jesus calls us to be the light of the world.  We are called to let our light – our reflection of God – shine in the darkness of this world so that Jesus can be seen in our lives.  Matthew 5:16 – In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

I challenge us today to allow the light of Christ to shine in us – through us – and in spite of us so that others may see Jesus and give Him glory.  Strive daily to let Jesus be seen in your life – to let the light of Christ overcome the darkness in the world around us.  Do not hide your light under a bushel – but let it shine.  Do not let Satan blow it out – let it shine.  Shine all over where you work – where you live – where you play!  Lets’ just do it!  Let’s let our light so shine before men and women –boys and girls –that they see Jesus!

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
