Blessed Are the Peacemakers

Matthew 5:9

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.

profileI had a friend in High School who was pretty big for his age – lol.  He was very strong – and played football.  A number of times I watched him step in between two guys getting ready to go at it and calm the storm before it erupted.  He was a major force at our school.  He was a peacemaker by his mere size.

Sunday I saw Ray Rice (Ravens running back) and Phil Taylor (Browns nose tackle) go at each other for a few moments – toe to toe.  A few players tried to break them up – trying to be a peacemaker – trying to keep both players in the game.  Again – these players and the peacemakers are huge people!

Today’s passage says – Matthew 5:9 – Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.  We’re not all big – strong people.  Many of us are not even close to being intimidating.  But we are all called to be peacemakers.  To be called a son or daughter of God – we are called to be peacemakers.

How can we become peacemakers?  One way is to not start things in the first place.  Often battles – verbal or physical – start because two banty roosters are going toe to toe and no one will back down.  Backing down is not a sign of weakness dear readers.  It is often a sign of wisdom – knowing that what you are upset about just might not be worth the battle you are facing.

Let there be peace on earth – and let it begin with me/you/us!

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
