Greater Is He

1 John 4:4

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

profileGrowing up most everyone I knew wanted to be on the winning side – of whatever we were talking on in life.  We tried to win county and state championships in all of our sports.  We tried to get number one ratings in our band competitions.  We tried to win.

My favorite football team is having a rough time this year – just one year after winning the Super Bowl.  They even have a losing record this year – after losing 3 games by a total of 11 points.

When we don’t win – it is usually because the other team – the other band – the other performer – was better than we were on that given day.  That is what the Raven’s players and coaches are saying – that the other team was just better on that day.  Just 11 points between their 3-5 record and a 6-2 record.

Scripture tells us the following.  First – we’re told that if we are in Christ – the old is gone and the new has come.  2 Corinthians 5:17 – Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!  I always like to add – but the old hasn’t gone too far.  The human – natural – sinful self is always just below the surface if not above the surface trying to revive itself.  As Christians we are new creations but the battle is constant.  The war may have been won but the battles rage on.

Secondly – we’re told in Scripture that the devil is prowling around – just waiting to pounce on us.  1 Peter 5:8 – Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

The Good News today is that we can have and do have victory through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Here is another passage that gives us this hope.  Colossians 2:13-15 – 13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

We have victory through the Cross of Calvary.  We have victory in Jesus our Lord – because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. KJV We have someone on our side that is greater than the devil – the one on the other side.  We do not have to yield – we can have victory – we can stand strong – because of Jesus!  Greater is He! Thank you Jesus.

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
