The Light

Isaiah 9:2

The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.

profileDecember 24th – just one more sleep until Christmas for those who count sleeps!  All four candles were lit this Sunday on the Advent Wreath and tonight we will lite the Christ candle in the center as well.  Tomorrow is Christmas!  Are you ready?  Almost too late if you aren’t.  Make plans now to be ready before Christmas Eve next year!  I did some last minute shopping yesterday for my wife!

I hope that you will find the time this evening to attend worship somewhere.  We have three services this evening at our church – one at 4pm which will be our children’s pageant – one at 7pm which will be our family service with communion – and one at 11pm which will be our traditional Candlelight-Communion Service.  If your church doesn’t have that traditional 11pm service you are more than welcome to join us at 1st United Methodist Church in Laurel this year.

The people of Jesus’ day were walking in darkness – they were waiting for the light to arrive!  They were waiting for the Messiah – the light that would come into the world and shine in such a way that the darkness could not put it out!  John 1:4-5 – 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

The people waited for the light to come into the world.  That light was foretold – predicted.  In today’s passage we see part of the prophetic voice.  Isaiah 9:2 – The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.

Do you feel like you are in the dark today?  Is the gloom of life getting too much for you?  Are you at your wits end?  Hanging on for dear life?  If so – the greatest gift ever given is for you this Christmas.  Turn your life over to Jesus – the light that shines in the darkness and the darkness cannot put it out!  The people walking darkness have seen and great light and that light is Christ.

Merry Christmas and may you never walk in darkness again.  May the light of Christ ever be within you and may it always light the path you walk.

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
