What Is God After?

Micah 6:8

He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

profileI’m in the midst of preaching a sermon series on The Heart.  The title of the series is Heart Surgery.  We’re examining the spiritual heart and finding all sorts of Scriptures that speak about the heart.  One that we used last Sunday was Proverbs 21:2 – We justify our actions by appearances; God examines our motives. The Message

I will begin this week’s message with one of my favorite sayings.  Those who know me will be able to finish this saying – Christianity boils down to _________ – the condition and position of the ____________. (See later for the answers.)  Try to post the answers before reading the rest of the post.

Today’s passage suggests what I said Sunday – that God is interested in the heart – the motive of humanity – more than the action.  God is after the heart!  As I said Sunday – we can do the right thing for the wrong reason.  If we do – we can still be wrong.  God is after the heart – the motive – the intention.  If the heart is right – the actions will follow!

Micah 6:8 – He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?  God requires a heart of justice – a heart that loves – a heart that walks humbly with God.

That is why one of my favorite sayings – one I made up I believe – is this – Christianity boils down to attitude – the condition and position of the heart.  Attitude – that is the title of this Sunday’s sermon on the heart.  Hope to see you there.  If you cannot attend – the audio file will be up on the website soon afterward at www.fumcl.org.

Does God have your heart?  I mean your entire heart?  He is after it for sure.  If there are still areas where we need to surrender to God – I’ll pray for you if you’ll pray for me!  God wants our heart – all of it!

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
