Let Your Light Shine

Luke 8:16

No one after lighting a lamp covers it with a jar or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light.

profileYesterday in worship we talked about bad news and good news in the Bible.  We talked about Ruth – Joseph – Jonah – and Peter.  Each of them had some tough spots in their lives.  Ruth was a young widow without hope – Joseph was beaten and thrown into a pit to die by his brother and later sold into slavery – Jonah ran from God – was thrown into the sea and swallowed by a large fish – and Peter was beaten – chained and left in prison with four legions of guards watching his every move.  Sounds like a lot of bad news to me.

In each case God gave them some good news.  Boaz became Ruth’s kinsman redeemer – a foretaste of Christ being our kinsman redeemer (and Boaz and Ruth became ancestors of Christ).  Joseph saved Israel from starvation during a famine after God blessed him to become high up in the government in Egypt.  Jonah was saved from the belly of the large fish (a REAL story by the way) – spit upon a beach – went to Nineveh – preached about God and the while city repented.  Peter walked out of the prison – led by an angel – past guards – through gates that opened for him.  Sounds like some good news to me.

So what bad thing has happened to you?  What bad news have you had in your life?  Are you battling with a sickness?  With an addiction?  With family and relational issues?  Have you lost your job – your home – your family – and all of your material possessions?  Sounds like some bad news to me.

Has God given you any good news in the midst of your bad news?  Have you been healed?  Have you found peace in Jesus Christ?  Have you overcome your addiction – by God’s grace – one-day-at-at-time?  Have you been blessed in ways you couldn’t imagine?  Has God done amazing things in your life?

Luke 8:16 – No one after lighting a lamp covers it with a jar or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light.

If God has done something for us – given us some good news – we can’t hide it under a bed or a bushel or a blanket.  We cannot keep silent when God has delivered us from the bad news in our lives.  As I like to say – we gotta tell somebody!  We must share the good news of what God has done and is doing in our lives.

Here is a video from my daughter and son – as God took them from a very low place and gave them – gave the whole family really – good news.  God’s Good News for Our Family

Share your stories!  Let your light shine.  Matthew 5:16 – In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.

  1. God had gotten me & family through many storms I use to say it was pure luck once upon a time but now I know it has nothing to do with luck it is by the Grace of God working in my life.
