The Plan/Will Of God!

Psalm 33:11

But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.

profileAre you the type of person who makes lists – a person who has a to-do list? Does your data phone have a lists app such as GTasks – which is Google Tasks and connects with the tasks on your Google account – your Gmail e-mail account?  If you make a task in your e-mail account – it can follow you on your data device through such apps.  For some of us that might be a little too much!  For some of us that isn’t even enough.

How organized are you?  Is your office desk neat and orderly?  Or do you simply know where everything is in your mess?  Does everything have a place in your garage?  My wife teases me all the time because my garage is not neat.  Nancy Lane and my father-in-law keep the ideal garage according to my wife – so neat and everything has a place and is in that place. Do you draw lines around your tools hanging on the wall so you know what tool goes where?

Today’s passage speaks about the will of God – the plans of God. God makes plans! He has a desired outcome. I’m not of the theological mindset that everything God wants – God gets.  I do not believe in irresistible grace for instance.  I believe our free-will can block God’s desire for our lives.  Having said that – part of our journey as children of God is to learn the plans of God. Today’s passage – written just a little differently – from The Message – reads this way – God’s plan for the world stands up, all his designs are made to last.

The Psalmist writes – Psalm 40:8 – I desire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart.  It is a sign of Christian maturity when we do God’s will.  Jesus bent to the Father’s will in Gethsemane – Matthew 26:39 – Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”   It is a sign of Christian maturity when we even know God’s will – for us and for others – Romans 12:1–2 – Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Whether we are a list maker or not – this is one thing that should be high on our list – seeking His face and desiring His grace. We should be searching for God’s will in our lives – seeking out what God would have us do.  As the Psalmist says – God’s plan is forever – and for generations to come!  Psalm 33:11 – But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
