No Condemnation!

Romans 8:1-2

1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.

profileWhen I was younger – one of the things I was really good at was looking at two pictures of the same item with small or slight differences and finding the differences. I also could find the items that didn’t belong in a picture. Highlight Magazine was one of my favorites as a kid. I hated getting to the doctor’s office and find that someone ahead of me had circled or colored the items that didn’t belong in the picture (I usually found some that they didn’t – lol).

Raising children is not an easy task. Too often we can easily fall into the trap of being a disciplinarian – always (and I mean always) seeing the wrong in our children way before we see the good. We can fall into this trap with our spouse and with those we work with as well. It is good that we can see what is wrong with this picture – but we need to see the good as well.

Too many non-Christians can only see the things they think they will have to give up to follow Jesus. Some believe that they will need to give up having fun. I laugh at that thought – since I feel I have more fun following Christ than I could if I didn’t follow Him.

Today’s passage points out one of the supreme positives of following Christ. Romans 8:1-2 – 1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.

As a pastor – at times – I am quicker to preach sermons challenging us to do more for Jesus – to follow Him more closely – more sincerely – more truthfully. We all need to be challenged to walk the walk as well as we talk the talk. But we also need to hear the positive things God is doing in our lives and the way – at times – that we faithfully follow Him.

Better words are hard to find than these – in Christ – there is now no condemnation. If Jesus is our Lord and Savior – we will no longer be found guilty when we face the throne of God. We can actually approach the throne with confidence – Hebrews 4:16 – Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Today – walk in the promise of no condemnation. Like the woman caught in adultery – Jesus says to us – John 8:10–11 – 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” 11 “No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
