Lord, If You Are Willing?

Matthew 8:2

“Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”

profileWhat are you willing to do? Usually that list would be limited to things you can do as well as thing that you want to do. When Jesus was teaching among the people – a person with leprosy came up to Him and said to Him – “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”

Here is today’s passage in partial context. Matthew 8:1-4 – 1When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” 3 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy. 4 Then Jesus said to him, “See that you don’t tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”

This story in Matthew’s Gospel is followed by the story of the faith of the Centurion. The Centurion believed that Jesus could do the supernatural.

What is it in your life you believe that Jesus could do – if He is willing? He once said – Matthew 7:7-8 – 7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

Maybe we don’t see the miracles of God because we don’t believe? Maybe we don’t see God’s hand at work because we fail to ask – we fail to believe? What is it in your life that you believe Jesus can do – if He is willing?

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
