The Rock
1 Samuel 2:2
“There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.”
For those WWF/E fans – I’m not going to talk about The Rock – Dwayne Johnson. The Rock was college football player at Miami – winning a National Championship with the team in 1991. Because of a back injury – he ended up following his grandfather and father into professional wrestling and became one of the most successful and well liked wrestlers of all time winning 17 championships in the WWE. He won the 2000 Royal Rumble.
Dwayne Johnson also played in a few movies including The Scorpion King in 2002 – the first film where he was the lead actor. He also starred in a remake of Walking Tall (one of my favorite movies) and several other films. You can check out the list of films here.
So – if we aren’t talk about Dwayne Johnson – The Rock – today – who or what are we talking about? Maybe we’re talking about the film – The Rock – the 1996 movie starring Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage. That was a great film – where a group of rogue US special force marines capture an arsenal of chemical weapons and take up residence on The Rock – an island prison called Alcatraz. It was a great movie filled with suspense and intrigue.
So – we’re not talking about Dwayne John or Nicolas Cage. If we’re talking about The Rock – but not about them – who or what could we be talking about?
When I think of a rock I think of something hard – something strong – something lasting. The Rock – Dwayne Johnson would fit that description – The Rock – Alcatraz would as well. But The Rock I’m thinking about today is our God. Samuel writes – “There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.”
God is The Rock – our rock – our stable place. Spending time with God – seeking His face and desiring His grace – will bring us a place of rest – a place of peace – a place of stability.
Have we spent time with The Rock this morning? Will we spend the day with The Rock as we walk life’s highway? Will we grow more and more to rely on Him as our anchor – our security?
Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
