Wherever You Go

Joshua 1:9

the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

20140530-104833-38913743.jpgWe’ve all heard the saying that the only thing we cannot avoid in life is death and taxes. How appropriate that today is the primary elections. Some candidates have been known for raising taxes and some have promised to cut taxes or have been known for cutting taxes in the past. Although that is not the only issue at hand – taking more money from our already taxed pockets does not resonate well with most people.

What are some other things that we cannot seem to avoid? Are there people in our lives that always seem to show up? Some of those folks are treasures – always showing up when we need them – when there is a crisis. Some of those folks are anything but treasures – people you wish you could avoid – no mater the circumstances. Are there people in your life you have tried hard to avoid?

A number of times in the Bible – God has promised to be with us – even always. Here are a few examples. Hebrews 13:5 – Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”  Matthew 28:18–20 – 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Today’s passage is another example (there are many others). Joshua 1:9 – Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

God has promised to be wherever we go – to never leave us nor forsake us – even to the end of the age. Now that is some powerful promise. So powerful that He repeats it over and over in the Bible. That strengthens me this morning. How about you dear reader?

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
