The Winning Team

Galatians 3:28

for you are all one in Christ Jesus

20140530-104833-38913743.jpgIn team sports – it is often the team that plays well together that wins over the team with more star players. The NBA Finals was a good example of this idea. Although the Spurs’ Tim Duncan will become a Hall-of-Famer – his supporting cast are simply good players that play like a team – and Tim is well beyond his peak years. They beat a team with future Hall-of-Famers LeBron James (in his prime) and Dwayne Wade (just past his prime). The stars lost and the team won.

The Orioles are a good team. They have some good players – maybe even some future Hall-of-Famers – time will tell. They are leading their division by 3.5 games and are tied for the 3rd best record in the AL – 62-48 (Detroit is at 61-47). They just played some of the teams that have star players – pitchers with better pedigrees and hitters too – two of those teams have better records than the Orioles. But they play great defense – rose to the occasion pitching and hit just enough to win 6 of 10 on a West Coast trip and 4 of 2 on a recent home stand against some of the same teams.

Teamwork is powerful. Teams that play together can beat teams with better players. Life is like this too. When we face difficult days – weeks – months – and even years – if we are on the right team – team Jesus – we can get through the difficult times. Today’s passage says that when we are in Christ – we are one in Christ – part of the winning team. Galatians 3:28 – There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

If we love Jesus – we are on His team and that is a team that will win in the end! I like being on the winning team. I root for my favorite teams – and my favorite team is team Jesus! Are you on His team?  The winning team?  Team Jesus?

Just something to think about today as you go on your way!
