NO Other Foundation!

1 Corinthians 3:11

For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.

20140530-104833-38913743.jpgI remember when our home was being built – a place to call our own. When our church blessed us with a housing allowance – we found some property and built our home. We have lived in our home now for 17 or 18 years – I can’t keep track.

When our home was being built – I remember the foundation being dug and laid. It was deeper than needed – and wider too. Our builder wanted to make sure we had plenty of foundation! I think we could put an additional floor on if we desired – because the foundation is that strong.

When women begin their makeup in the morning – they often will lay a foundation – before putting the rest of their war paint on their faces. Those are the best non-sports examples I have this morning folks – makeup and my home’s foundation.

Here’s a sport analogy. The Ravens and other NFL teams are laying a foundation right now for the season ahead. They are practicing and establish relationships with each other – team chemistry – that will hopefully carry them through the coming season – well into February!

Here’s today’s passage in partial context. 1 Corinthians 3:10–14 – 10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward.

If we build on a weak foundation or on something that wasn’t meant to be a foundation – we will fail – we will tumble. If the houses foundation isn’t wide and deep – isn’t made with concrete or some other strong material – the weight of the house will sink and fail. If our faith is based on anything other than Jesus Christ – we will not survive the test of time – the test of fire.

The only foundation that leads to salvation is the foundation of Jesus Christ. There is no other name by which we can be saved. Salvation comes through Jesus Christ alone!

Acts 4:12 – Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.

John 14:6 – Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Luke 6:48 – They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.

Build your faith on Jesus – and no other! Make sure that your faith’s foundation is sound. There is NO other foundation!

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
