Jesus Is Coming Soon!

Revelation 22:20

He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

20140530-104833-38913743.jpgChristmas is coming! It used to take forever when I was a child – but in about 4 months Christmas will be here again. I know it comes every December 25th – but here in August – it doesn’t seem that far away. I know loads of things will happen before it comes!

On the last Sunday of August we will have a end of summer cookout/pot luck – along with Friend’s Day. We hope to have loads of regulars and visitors on that Sunday as we roll out the fall schedule and urge people to build relationships – join small groups – and tell others about Jesus. It will be here before we know it!

In early September – dove season starts as does bow season for deer! My brother usually marks his calendar according to deer season. It will be here before we know it!

As the summer ends – and September begins – most churches will gear up for their fall schedules. New Bible studies will begin – our men’s study will return on September 9th (we have been co-ed for the summer and actually took August off). We have Rally Day coming on September 9th – as our children are promoted to the next grade education class and the adult classes start back in full swing. It will be here before we know it!

In October we will have World-Wide Communion Sunday at the start of the month and our Annual Charge Conference toward the end. In November we will have the annual Turkey Trot and Thanksgiving among other events. Advent begins on the last Sunday of November this year. It will be here before we know it!

Christmas is in December this year – you heard it here first. Christmas Eve services will be held again on the 24th – lol. Christmas Eve is on a Wednesday this year with Christmas on Thursday. Many will have off that Friday I would imagine. It will be here before we know it!

In today’s passage – Jesus shares that He is coming soon! Some two thousand years ago Jesus said – Yes, I am coming soon. Here is today’s passage in partial context. Revelation 22:12–21 – 12 “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. 14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. 15 Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. 16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.” 17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life. 18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. 19 And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll. 20 He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. 21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.

Some would say that Christmas is coming soon. Some would say that Christ’s return has passed soon a few years ago. But – the mindset we are to have as sisters and brothers of faith – is that Christ is coming soon. If we live as if we have 10-60 years or even the rest of our lifetime or another few generations – we will not live with the urgency of His coming soon. We must live as if Christ were returning today! We never know when our life will end – He may return soon for us. Scripture says no one knows the day or the hour of His return – and some will be about the every day functions without thought of His coming – and they will miss His coming.

Live each day as if Christ were coming – soon. If we let Christmas sneak up on us – we wouldn’t be ready. The gifts wouldn’t be purchased or wrapped. The food wouldn’t be purchased or prepared.   The visits to grandmothers would never take place – because we would fail to take off from work – if we didn’t plan for it!

Live each day as if Christ were coming – soon! Because that is what He said and He wants us to live with that expectation!

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
