God’s Love Endures Forever

Psalm 118:1

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.

We talk about current things – her short-term memory is the worst – like what she had for breakfast. We also talk about things from way back! She had a nickname and with some prodding – she usually remembers it. With some help at times – and other times without help – she remembers her children’s names and their spouses’ names too. Today she even remembered the names of my three daughters.

It is sad at times – we don’t have our mom with us – at least not the mom we grew up with for sure – but it is also a good thing – she doesn’t dwell on dad not being here and lives life moment-by-moment. Some of us should do that!

Memory is a good thing – most of the time. In the Bible – Israel seemed to have short memories. They would be forgiven by God (for some sin) – they would be blessed by God – often in a way that would blow their minds – and in short order – they would seemingly forget about God and go astray. Sound familiar? I believe we are like this today as well. Think about it.

The tough part for Israel is they also seemed to forget God’s love – mercy – and forgiveness. When they would go astray and fall on bad times (outside the protection of God) – they would wail and lament and seem to have no hope. If they only remembered (and if we would too) that God was always ready to forgive them if they came to Him and confessed their sins – they would have saved themselves so much grief. I mean – yes – we should grieve our sins – but not in despair and hopelessness. We should confess our sins and grieve what we have done – but from the hope and assurance that God’s love and mercy is always available to us.  God is always willing and able to forgive a person who repents and seeks His forgiveness.

I’m convinced that it is Satan who tries to block our memory of the eternal love of God. Psalm 118:1 – Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.  Don’t let Satan win – or to have even a foothold in your life.  Rebuke Satan and seek God’s face and desire His grace!

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
