The Lord is My Light!

Psalm 27:1

The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?

20140530-104833-38913743.jpgThe children will be out tonight and tomorrow night – starting at a very dangerous time – dusk. As it gets dark they might have a flash night or they may not. Be careful driving around. I plan to attend our truck ‘n treat tonight at the church – over a thousand children will come through our parking lot. I also plan to walk with one of my granddaughters and friends on Friday night.

I will have a flashlight on both occasions – because I don’t like the dark! I’m OK in the dark – but I would rather have some light – even a little light.

Darkness is often referred to as the absence of God. The Psalmist today wrote – The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid? God is our light in a darkened world.

Here is today’s passage in partial context. Psalm 27:1–5 – The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid? 2 When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall. Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident. 4 One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. 5 For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock.

Again – be careful tonight – tomorrow night – and every night for sure. There are children out there walking in the dark. Maybe pass out Christian tracks with any treats you give – so that maybe – just maybe – someone will come out of the darkness and come into the light that is Jesus!  The Lord is my light and I want Him to be your light as well!

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
