How Sweet Are God’s Words!

Psalm 119:103

How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

Pic of Ray 11302014It is not secret that I am a Baltimore Orioles fan. I have been since my pre-teen years for sure. Like some of the Washington Redskin fans are experiencing right now (and even Ravens fans after Sunday’s loss) – it was not always easy to be an Orioles fan. They had 14 straight losing seasons and only recently – under Buck Showalter’s managing and Dan Duquette’s work as the chief executive (usually called a general manager). They won their division this past year and had an amazing season.

I like to read/listen to news about the Orioles year round. One of my prime sources for information – be it during the season – during the fall/winter (hot stove league time) – or during spring training – is reading and listening to Roch Kubatko – a young man I knew back in his High School days at Old Mill High School. You can follow him at The School of Roch. He gets the scoop on all of the latest about our Orioles. I check out his blog page several times daily because his words are sweet morsels to the eyes of real Oriole fans.

The Psalmist believed that the words of God are/were sweet to the taste as well. Here is today’s passage in partial context. Psalm 119:97–105 – 97 Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. 98 Your commands are always with me and make me wiser than my enemies. 99 I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes. 100 I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts. 101 I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word. 102 I have not departed from your laws, for you yourself have taught me. 103 How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! 104 I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path. 105 Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

Do we cherish the word of God? Do we read it on a regular basis – even referring back to it several times each day? Are we excited to hear it and read it? Do we start our day with the word of God and continue with it all day long? Do we hang on every word from God?

As we start a new year very soon – we should find ourselves a Bible reading plan – a daily reading plan of the Bible. You can find many of them at YouVersion.com or at BibleGateway.com or at other sites.  I usually do a year-long reading plan – but this year I will read shorter plans and encourage others to read along with me through this blog – on Facebook – and with Twitter. Reading daily will help us in our daily walk with Jesus!

Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
