Revive Us Again!

Psalm 85:6

Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?

IMG_0301Starting this Sunday – February 15th – we will be in revival. The revival starts Sunday morning – at both our 8:15 & 11:00 am service. The revival will continue on Sunday evening at 7 pm and each night through Wednesday night – Ash Wednesday – at 7 pm. This year we will conclude the revival on Sunday – February 22nd. Plan now to attend. Plan now to invite someone to your church for this awesome worship time. It is a great time to invite folks that already attend another church on Sunday mornings but might like to visit your church.

This week the devotional thoughts will center on revival as we prepare for the services. I can remember going to sawdust camp meetings and revivals as a child – all over the Maryland – Virginia – West Virginia area. Although there won’t be any sawdust – we are praying for a great movement of the Holy Spirit on our church family.

Today’s passage – from Psalm 85:6 – reads – Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? Here it is in partial context. Psalm 85:1–7 – You, Lord, showed favor to your land; you restored the fortunes of Jacob. 2 You forgave the iniquity of your people and covered all their sins. You set aside all your wrath and turned from your fierce anger. Restore us again, God our Savior, and put away your displeasure toward us. 5 Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your anger through all generations? Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? Show us your unfailing love, Lord, and grant us your salvation.

Over and over God has revived Israel – God’s people – and time and again – His grace will revive us – as we humble ourselves before Him and seek His face while we desire His grace. The psalmist writes – You forgave the iniquity of your people and covered all their sins. You set aside all your wrath and turned from your fierce anger. We all want the Savior part of the Lord and Savior title for Jesus. We want to be forgiven – we want His mercy and grace.

The psalmist continues with – Restore us again, God our Savior, and put away your displeasure toward us. Restore us – revive us in some translations – means bring us back into right relationship with You dear Lord. The Psalmist ends with – Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?  Show us your unfailing love, Lord, and grant us your salvation.

That is what we are after in our revival – a time for humbling ourselves as we breakdown 2 Chronicles 7:14 – if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
