I Will Praise You With Everything!

Psalm 138:1

I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart; before the “gods” I will sing your praise.

IMG_0301What do you do with all your heart?  What gets all of your attention?  What is it that takes first place in your thinking – above all other things?

I know some sports fanatics (fans) who support their teams with all their heart.  They paint their vehicles with their favorite team’s colors.  They wear team clothing – all the time.  They don’t miss a game – either in person or on TV.  They talk about the game all week before their team plays and all week afterward – to anyone who will listen and even some who won’t (if they have a chance).  I just finished watching the Orioles play another game – they aren’t doing great this year – but – they are my team. The Wizards are in the playoffs as are the Capitals – it is exciting around here. The NFL draft just finished and the Ravens had a number of needs – and picked up some amazing players.

I was listening to Francis Chan the other day on a podcast and he quoted this passage – Revelation 2:4 – Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love.  Frances talked about his life and how as he reviewed some old sermons he came to the realization that he was more in love with Jesus before than he felt he was now.  He seemed to have a more prophetic voice in the past than now and it floored him.  Are we still as in love with Jesus as when we first came to Christ or first started our ministries or our spiritual walk?

As disciples of Jesus Christ we are to love Jesus more than anything.  Jesus said it this way – Mark 12:30 – Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.  Love God with everything!  Do we love Jesus with everything?  Is spending time with Jesus the first thing we think about when we awaken each morning?  Is making disciples of Jesus the focus of our church – or is it selfish – focused on us?  Are we involved in ministries where outsiders say about us – they really love Jesus?  If not – we should be.  If not – what will we do to return to our first love – Jesus?  What will it take for us to love God with everything in us?

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
