The Lord Reigns

Exodus 15:18

“The Lord reigns for ever and ever.”

IMG_0301Recently I tweeted that a dear friend was fighting for his life. While he is fighting for his life – his wife passed. These are fairly active and not too radically old people who suddenly have had their life changed in a flash. It has rocked the world of many.

The wife who died was a well-loved teacher at a local High School. She had retired but was still sub teaching at the local High School and many students – including my own children – knew her and loved her dearly. Several of her former colleagues from the school have reached out to me and on Facebook. Many are in shock.

The husband is still fighting for his life and we will know more in the next day or two. He too was very active in teaching and in the Board of Education. He was my J.V. basketball coach in High School and they were both members of one of my home churches.

They were planning to go back home (to another state) soon. They were making plans for the next season in their life. Both were strong in their faith and in their local church. They were a special couple.

With all of that said – they were not promised tomorrow. Their faith is not in a God who promised them here and now – but a God who promised them eternity with Him. That doesn’t mean that God won’t or hasn’t blessed them or us here and now – but – the promise is for eternity.

God is large and in charge and NOTHING happens that God is not aware of – ultimately allowing even our sin. Our hope is in today’s passage – Exodus 15:18 – “The Lord reigns for ever and ever.”

That truth is what I hold onto as I grieve the passing of a dear friend and another life holding in the balance. I heart goes out to the family of two people of great faith who so suddenly had their lives shaken and changed.

My faith is not shaken – it is actually strengthened. My faith is not based on how well I have it or my family and friends. My faith is based on the Lord who reigns forever and ever.

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
