God Is Not Hiding!

Proverbs 8:17

I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.

IMG_0301I’m starting this post before heading to Annual Conference.  I’m setting it up so that I can complete it later – maybe with my iPad at Conference. My prayer yesterday was that we would seek after God – that we would seek first after His kingdom.  I will be reporting on what I see this week in this blog.

God says in Proverbs 8:17 – I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.  In other words – the UMC should be able to find God if we are looking for God – because God is not hiding!  If we love God and seek after God – God should be found and should be a blessing to us.  We’ll see how it goes.

I know that no two people see things the same – some of my evangelical sisters and brothers have differing views.  But we should be able to agree on the fundamental things of the faith (yet at times we don’t).  My hope is that #BWCUMC2015 will be a unifying event in the life of the church. That General Conference 2016 will be as well.  I’m praying for Gethsemane Moments all around for the church this week and in the year to come.

Some of the issues we face have the potential to be game changers.  Today’s clergy executive session was important – from the standpoint of new candidates for ministry being raised and voted on – some to start the process and some to become full elders or deacons and some in between.

I spoke with several friends from all sides of the fence on some important issues and all are waiting to see how the conference votes in the coming days on some sensitive issues.  I also saw some friends I haven’t seen for a while – some since last Annual Conference – but that is what Annual Conference brings to the table.

Thursday we begin the official sessions and voting for items like delegates to General Conference and Jurisdictional Conference as well as some motions that will come before us.  I will try to keep you updated.

Please remember that what the Baltimore-Washington Annual Conference votes on is not the United Methodist Church speaking.  Recommendations made at the BWC are most often merely items taken to the General Conference (which meets in 2016).  Where our conference is generally liberal in their  theological understandings the General Conference – which has been growing more conservative every four years for the last four decades (praise the Lord!).

One recommendation I will be watching closely is an attempt to divide the United Methodist Church into regions rather than a unified church (worldwide).  This – IMHO – is an attempt by those on the left to allow the more liberal conferences or regions of the church to disregard the historic stance of the UMC on some issues.

I will keep you informed!  Seek after God – dearly!  God is not hiding – God is actually looking for us!

Just something to think about today as you go on your way!
