The Movement of the Holy Spirit

Galatians 5:16

So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

IMG_0301We have often heard in sermons the call to take up our cross and follow Jesus. We often wrestle with the question – what is our cross?  We often look at the cross of Jesus – which He began to carry from time eternal.  His cross to carry wasn’t just from the courtyard to Golgotha.  Jesus began to carry His cross from before the creation of the world – denying Himself – His rightful place in heaven – knowing He would suffer and die at the very hands of a humanity He loved enough to die to redeem.

So what is our cross?  What is the cross we are called to carry?  We often suggest that denying self is the cross we are called to carry.  We often talk about mature Christians thinking more about how we can be used of God to feed the righteously hungry.  We can hear sermons on carrying our cross – and feel good about our understanding of such a sermon – yet – do we really walk out that message?

holy-spirit1Our cross is to love Jesus more than anything else – even or own family and more than ourselves!  We’re called to be sold out for Jesus – on fire for Him.  We are called to experience the fire and power of the Holy Spirit – the only way we can actually carry our own cross.  We are called to deny the sinful nature that battles within us and the only way we can do this is through the Holy Spirit – God with us today.  Are we open to the movement of the Holy Spirit in our lives?  If we aren’t – we cannot carry our cross.  If we are – the power of God can help us carry our cross!

Galatians 5:16 – So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

The call today – and remember what I always say – the mirror is out in front of me when I preach or teach – is to take up our cross and deny self and follow Jesus – by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Holy Spirit – come upon Your church and enable us to witness Jesus to all who look upon us!  Church – let us open ourselves to the movement of the Holy Spirit – today!  The power of the Holy Spirit will enable us to be the church during these trying times.

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
