Would You Abort These?

Jeremiah 1:5

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew  you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

IMG_0301With Planned Parenthood in the news – for reportedly selling the body parts of aborted children – abortion is once again in the news.  I wish it were in the news because it was no longer a means of birth control – but only used when the very life of the mother was in danger (like tubal pregnancies).  I found these in an old blog post on this blog page and thought I would bring these questions back for your consideration.

Would you consider abortion in any of the following four situations (if you considered abortion at all)? Often the argument is made by society that quality of life or the threat of a lessened quality of life is a reason to abort. Would you consider abortion or suggest abortion in any of these circumstances?  I will list who each person was at the end of today’s blog post.

1. There’s a preacher and his wife who are very, very, poor. They already have 14 kids. Now she finds out she’s pregnant with her 15th. They’re living in tremendous poverty. Considering their extreme poverty and the excessive world population, would you consider recommending she get an abortion?

2. The father is sick with syphilis, the mother has TB. They have 4 children. The 1st is blind, the 2nd is dead, the 3rd is deaf and the 4th has TB. She finds she’s pregnant again. Given the extreme situation, would you consider recommending abortion?

3. A white man raped a 13 year old black girl and she got pregnant. If you were her parents, would you consider recommending abortion?

4. A teenage girl is pregnant. She’s not married. Her fiancée is not the father of the baby, and he’s very upset. Would you consider recommending abortion?

In today’s passage – we read that God had a plan for Jeremiah from before he was formed in his mother’s womb. Was this a statement for Jeremiah only – or do we believe in a God who has a plan for all of life?  If God has a plan for all of life – I wonder in my feeble mind – what great invention or great cure or great contribution – would some of the million of babies aborted have contributed to the human race?

The first baby was John Wesley – the founder of the Methodist Church.  The second baby was Beethoven.  The third baby was Ethel Waters – a great Gospel Singer.  The fourth baby was Jesus.

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
