The Lamb Is Worthy!

Revelation 5:12

In a loud voice they sang: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!”

82015 RaySeveral times in sermons and Bible studies of late I have mentioned Christians – at times – take Jesus for granted.  It seems to be human nature that if things are going well – at work – in our marriages – at church – in life – we tend to take someone or something for granted.  It isn’t much different in our faith journey.  Most Christians spend more time on their knees when crisis is at their doorstep than when life is good.  That just seems to be the pattern for many.

Attendance in most churches the Sunday after 9-11 – for example – was an indication.  I was serving as pastor at a church at the time with an average attendance of about 300 give or take a few on any given Sunday.  But the Sunday after 9-11 there were well over 400 in attendance.  Crisis brings us to Jesus.  Attendance figures during World War II saw this same truth – according to some reports.  The Sunday after the Sunday after 9-11 – when life was still in an upheaval – but out of crisis mode – attendance was back to normal.  It is the same thing with Easter – attendance almost doubles for one week and then we are back to normal – and at times – even less than normal because folks who do not attend every week all came on Easter.

Because Jesus used the analogy of Christ as the Groom and the church as the Bride – I think the marriage relationship is a great way to understand our relationship with Christ.  I’ve mentioned before that some of us may not feel the same way toward our spouses 5-10-20-30 plus years into the relationship as we did when we were dating.  When we were dating – it was not uncommon to spend our whole day thinking of her/him.  It takes work and a right attitude to keep the fires going in a marriage.  The same can be said about our relationship with Christ.  When we first receive Christ – we can’t seem to get enough of Him.  We want to read the Bible – pray – attend worship – attend Bible studies – and more – because we are like a sponge – wanting to absorb all we can about Jesus.  This zeal can wane if we allow it – if we do not keep our hearts tuned into Jesus.

Scriptures like today’s help us stay tuned into Jesus.  The scene is the throne room of heaven.  All the dignitaries were there – the four creatures – the twenty-four elders – the Father.  Yet no one was found worthy to open the scroll.

Revelation 5:3-4 – 3But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. 4I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside.

Enter the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world – enter Jesus.

Revelation 5:12 – In a loud voice they sang: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!”

Remember – Jesus is worthy – He was the only one found worthy!  He is worthy of our zeal – of our worship – as well.  Seek His face and desire His grace.  Remember – the Lamb is Worthy!

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
