Love Is Essential

John 13:34

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

82015 RayWe need to remember that love is essential.  Without love we will not represent Jesus well.  We are even told we will be forgiven as we forgive others – and forgiveness requires love.

Luke 11:4 – Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us.  And lead us not into temptation.

Often in the Bible we are told that what we do will be done to us or that we must model the example of Jesus in all we do.

Jesus is teaching His disciples – His followers – about love in today’s passage when He says: A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

Many places in the Bible we are told about Jesus’ great love – about God’s great love.

John 3:16 – For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Ephesians 5:25 – Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.

In today’s passage we are reminded that we are to love others as Christ modeled love for us.  How does our model measure up?  Men – are we loving our wives as Christ loves the church – and gave His life up for her?  Sisters and brothers – are we loving one another as Christ loves us?  Do we show love to others?  Love is essential!

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
