What Are We Waiting For Today?

Titus 2:13

…while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,

82015 RaySo what are we waiting for today? I have a friend who is waiting for retirement. He is counting the months till he can retire from his job and do something else. He doesn’t want to sit around – he just doesn’t want to keep doing what he is doing now.

So what are we waiting for today? Some folks are waiting for their ship to come in. They have worked hard toward whatever their career goals might be and are just waiting for it to pay off. They don’t want more than they think they deserve – they just want what they think they deserve.

So what are we waiting for today? I know a couple that can’t wait for their wedding day to arrive. They are very excited and have planned and prepared and are just counting the days. I can remember that feeling!

So what are we waiting for today? Let’s look at today’s passage in partial context. Titus 2:11–15 – 11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. 15 These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.

So what are we waiting for today? As the days unfold before us – the end of time is coming closer and closer (not trying to be a prophet – simply seeing the writing on the wall). A Christians – many of us connected to a local congregation – what are we focused on in our churches? Are we more concerned with the facility – with our comfort – with our survival? Or are we more interested in saving souls and building the kingdom of God? We can actually do all of these things – but reaching the lost MUST be our focus dear readers. The time is coming when no one will be able to be saved – how will we feel if someone doesn’t receive Christ and our efforts or lack-thereof are the reason?

So what are we waiting for today? My hope this morning is that we are waiting on the blessed hope which is the coming of Christ and His glory!

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
