Strive to be Blameless and Pure

Philippians 2:15

…so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky

112015 Ray McDonaldDear readers – how’s your Prayer/Fast going? I will try to ask this each day or as often as possible.  I hope that some of our readers will leave comments on this blog page as to how their Prayer/Fast is going and what God might be revealing to them.

Let me report that my Prayer/Fast is going well – although I may reconsider my fast from Social Media. I found out just how much I use Social Media in ministry these last two days.  To avoid it – would hinder me – I think. Keeping up with members and youth/young adults through social media helps me greatly. I will reconsider it – maybe not comment as much but still keep in touch.  I will seek something else.  Any ideas?

I have spent more time in prayer and reading the Word of God during the first few days of the Prayer/Fast. I feel a new closeness to Jesus. Every little bit helps!  I am doing two reading plans from http://www.youversion.com and encourage our readers to find a plan that works for you.  Mine are The One Year Bible and Devotions for Lent from Holy Bible: Mosaic if you desire to read along.

The Scriptures often call us to holiness – to be blameless and pure. Here’s today’s passage in partial context. Philippians 2:12–18 – 12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. 14 Do everything without grumbling or arguing, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.”  Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain. 17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. 18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.

Our Prayer/Fast is all about becoming holy or holier. It is about seeking after God and drawing near to Him. I’m trying to identify the things that hinder me. I love this passage about throwing off everything that hinders our walk with God – Hebrews 12:1 – Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,

My goal during the Prayer/Fast is to run with perseverance – to throw off the things that hinder me – and to strive for holiness – to be blameless and pure. I hope you will join me dear readers.

So what is it that hinders us? What is it that keeps us from our task? What is it that keeps us from being pure and blameless? I pray that God will reveal these things to us and help us as we strive to be drawn closer to God.

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
