God Is Our Refuge

Deuteronomy 33:27

The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.

Photo on 7-6-16 at 3.42 PMRecently I posted a devotional about Social Media and the Tongue and many read it and liked it. I posted one about the 2016 Presidential Elections and it too was widely read. Yesterday I wrote on God’s grace and today on God being our refuge and my prediction will be little notice for today or yesterday’s posts. I wonder why that is?

Are we drawn to things thought controversial? Are we drawn to the train wreck – the car crash (like the 2016 Presidential Elections)? Understanding God’s grace and how God is our refuge seems to be of utmost importance – yet few will share this on Facebook or other social media outlets and the reading of it will be low.

Recently I visited the state where I was born (West Virginia). I played a round of golf on one of the most beautiful courses I’ve ever played. The course itself is nothing great – even middle of the road of courses I’ve played (nice greens) – but the scenery surrounding the course – sitting in the valley with mountains all around it is breath-taking.

When I play this course in West Virginia (Valley View Golf) I experience a little awe in the wonder of God’s creation. I can get lost in my thoughts on this course – thinking about the awesomeness of our God to create such a beautiful setting. It is like a refuge from the world of traffic – smog – buildings – and even people.

Today’s passage talks about God being our refuge. I wonder – so we turn to God often to find rest and peace in these troubled times? God is waiting for us dear readers. God is ready to be our refuge and our strength.

Here’s today’s passage in partial context. Deuteronomy 33:24–29 – 24 About Asher he said: “Most blessed of sons is Asher; let him be favored by his brothers, and let him bathe his feet in oil. 25 The bolts of your gates will be iron and bronze, and your strength will equal your days. 26 “There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, who rides across the heavens to help you and on the clouds in his majesty. 27 The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He will drive out your enemies before you, saying, ‘Destroy them!’ 28 So Israel will live in safety; Jacob will dwell secure in a land of grain and new wine, where the heavens drop dew. 29 Blessed are you, Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord? He is your shield and helper and your glorious sword. Your enemies will cower before you, and you will tread on their heights.”

Whatever we face in the world today – God is there for us! Whatever causes us pain – God is there for us! God is our refuge – a place we can turn for solace and peace. We shouldn’t wait until the weight of the world is upon us – we should turn to God daily as our refuge. God is ready and willing to be our safe haven!

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
