Delivered From All Our Fears

Psalm 34:4

I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.

RayMcDWhat is it we are afraid of today? Some have expressed a real fear over the Zika Virus – and it is a scary thing for sure – especially for women who wish to bare children or are pregnant now. The Zika Virus has arrived on the shores of the USA most recently. The virus has come to the USA as infected mosquitos on U.S. soil have bitten some people. The medical community is telling us that it is doing all it can to combat this virus. Fear still runs rampant among some in our southern states – and maybe for good reason.

What is it we are afraid of today? The economy shows some signs of recovery while the number of people out of work seems to be increasing. People are wondering when they should pull their money out of the stock market as some say a crash is near. No one really knows. Being able to pay our bills – especially in retirement – is a real concern for some.

What is it we are afraid of today? Some have expressed – on social media for example – a real fear over the 2016 Presidential election for instance. Some have expressed fear over Hillary Clinton being elected and some have expressed fear over Donald Trump being elected. Some have even shown a fear of either one being elected. Unless someone comes on really strong – those two are our options! Some of us can’t wait until the election is over and our Social Media feeds return to normal – even if it means trouble with whoever is elected!

What is it we are afraid of today? We could go on and on because there are so many things one can fear in the world around us. Yet – today’s passage speaks about a God – a Lord – who can deliver us from all our fears. How is it that we can have all of our fears dissolved?

Here is today’s passage in partial context. Psalm 34:1–9 – 1 I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips. 2 I will glory in the Lord; let the afflicted hear and rejoice. Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together. I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. Fear the Lord, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing.

Trusting in Jesus will help us deal with all of our fears. The main reason that this is true is that our focus will be on eternity rather than on the temporal! We will not sweat the small things of this life as much as we do because we will have the promise of eternity with Jesus. I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
