A Time For Everything

Ecclesiastes 3:1

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:

RayMcDSaturday night we went to bed with the temperature at 72. We had turned off the AC early that evening in the hopes that fall weather would arrive. I hadn’t slept well the night before – my Fitbit said I got less than 4 hours of sleep – and I really needed some sleep. I slept soundly from a little before 10 pm till just after 6 am – over 8 hours of sleep! It was time for a good sleep!

Sunday morning I woke to 50 degrees at the house (windows open so covers were on). It was time for some cooler weather.

Sunday we tried doing a Facebook live event for the sermon. It wasn’t one of our better sermons but I wanted to try the live event feature. You can listen to the sermon here if you have Facebook. It was time to try something new.

The Redskins won Sunday – for the first time this year – it was time for a win. The Ravens won for the 3rd time this year – they are 3-0 – it was a timely defense that helped once again. The Orioles swept a series after being swept in a series to awaken their playoff chances – it was time – with the season ending soon. The Nationals also won today – it was time for a good day of local sports.

There always seems to be a time when things work or don’t work – like the trick punt by the Redskins. Sometimes those things work and sometimes they don’t.

Today’s passage reminds us that there is a time for everything. Ecclesiastes 3:1–8 – 1 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: 2 a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, 3 a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, 4 a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, 5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, 6 a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, 7 a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, 8        a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.

There is no time like the present to follow Jesus! When time is something that we do not control – mostly – our eternity is not something to be toyed with or delayed. It is not something to take a chance with and try to wait for a later – better – time. There is no time like today – the day of our salvation is at hand. 2 Corinthians 6:2 – For he says, “In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.

Just something to think about today as you go on your way.
