Thoughts and Reflections

Christmas Praises 20

John 3:16 (KJV)

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

christmas-1During the month of December I have asked some members and friends of our church to write a paragraph or so describing some of the things that bring them joy this Christmas season in their relationship with Jesus and First Church? They were asked where they see Jesus in their church family? They were asked what draws them to First Church. The reason for this is to stir up some joy and excitement this Christmas Season. I told them I would share their thoughts anonymously – but I am keeping their e-mails for sure. I will try to post a comment a day for December so obviously I need 31 comments. The posts will go up around noon each day.

All year long but especially during the holidays of Thanksgiving, Christmas and the coming New Year, I see our church committees wind down and then plan for the next year of self-less serving.   The tireless servanthood I see from our church family inspires me to be better and humbles me to reflect on the sincerity of my own service. When serving honestly and genuinely, its just such an honor to be part of something bigger than myself….thats what I love!! To see Jesus in the things we plan and in the faces of those serving then how the Holy Spirit makes it all work together! Just awesome! It’s what keeps us all strong, keeps us together and makes me feel the familyhood of our church. I pray others will join and breathe freshness into our committees and then they can feel the joy of being a good an faithful servant! Amen and Amen.

I praise the Lord for the testimony. I hope that it brings those who read it great joy. Merry Christmas to one and all.

Showing Love At Christmas

James 4:1

What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you?

RayMcDHave any of us ever seen a child throw a temper tantrum? Maybe it was because they didn’t get what they wanted or what they thought they deserved? Maybe they were in the grocery store and wanted a certain box of cereal they had seen on TV. Maybe it was Christmas morning or at a birthday party and the gift they wanted wasn’t there or the gift they got disappointed them somehow. I pick on children because they haven’t learned to hide their emotions like many of us have (some of us haven’t yet). They let that raw heart-felt emotion show many times.

Adults are not innocent here my friends. I have seen grown adults – in church meetings no less – throw temper tantrums – throwing down a clip board – pulling power plays to gain an upper hand in a discussion – and more. Do we ever sit back – after an outburst by someone (or by ourselves) and wondered – where did that come from? James asks that question today – What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? Continue reading
