Know Jesus – Know Peace

John 6:47

I tell you the truth, anyone who believes has eternal life.

RayMcDChristmas is past and we are moving toward a new year. Have you heard this one? What ends as the New Year arrives? Answer – the year just past. What will we leave in 2016 and what will arrive in 2017? Some good questions for sure. The year past saw some famous people pass – it saw some of my favorite teams underachieve – it saw some long time members and supporters of our Lord and church pass or move away. We filled a few staff positions in 2016 with persons that bring a fresh attitude to the office – a breath of fresh air according to some. What are some of the best and worst moments in your past year as it closes in the next few days?

This coming year – actually in January of this year – my fifth granddaughter is due. In January we will receive 20 some folks into membership in our church. We will also welcome one or maybe two new staff members in January. New beginnings are associated with a new year and the first sermon series in 2017 is titled Making Everything New.

I’ll turn 62 during the first quarter of 2017 – not sure if that is a good thing (because I’m still alive) or not (because I’m getting closer to old age – no comments please). The two daughters and their families are planning to return to Maryland in 2017 – I’ll believe it when I see it. There are 53 Sundays in 2017 – an additional opportunity to praise and worship God together.

Most of our lives are measured by the years we live – as we recently read a poem at a member’s funeral – the dash between the sunrise and sunset of our lives. How will we live the portion of the dash called 2017? Some of us might not see the whole year through. Some of us will think the year has gone too fast (even before it begins). Some of us will move – some will graduate – some will marry – some will start new jobs – some will continue the path of life they are currently walking.

However 2017 unfolds in our lives – one thing we can be confident of is this – if we know Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior – we will live eternally with Him when we draw our last breath. Today’s passage reminds us that if we believe in Christ – we will have eternal life. John 6:47 – Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life. Belief in Jesus is where it’s at dear readers. Whatever happens in the New Year – if we know Jesus we will know peace. Know Jesus – know peace. No Jesus – no peace. Eternal life is a free gift from Jesus – if we have placed our hope and trust in Him.

Just something for us to think about today as we go on our way.
