What Is Your View Of Marriage?

Genesis 2:18

The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

What are your views on marriage? In this day and age when people are living together before or without marriage; divorcing at an increasing rate; when debates rage concerning who may get married (same sex partners); what are your views on marriage? It is important to know where you stand on issues of importance like marriage – the cornerstone of our society.

A great place to start the discussion would be the Bible.

Genesis 2:18The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

Genesis 2:23-24The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

2 Corinthians 6:14Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?

Matthew 19:4-6Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”

This summer marks our 37th anniversary. I couldn’t have asked for a better partner.

What are your views about marriage? Have they changed with the times? Are your views in line with the Bible? Or are your views in line with the society? Our own denomination has been debating marriage – in ways – for over four decades. The debate over who can get married in our denomination may eventually split our denomination. What are your views?

Just something for us to think about today as we go on our way.
