Renew Our Strength

Isaiah 40:31

…but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.

This is vacation season for many people. My social media feeds are filled with people heading to the mountains or to the beach or out of town to a vacation destination somewhere. Often people see vacation time as a time to renew their strength – to relax and not be controlled by the day-to-day work schedule. It often allows for more family time than a typical workweek as well. What do we do to relax? What do we do to renew our strength?

An interesting discussion might include these questions and more. What do we do to relax or t be rejuvenated? Time off from work is not always relaxing as many people say they need a vacation to recuperate from their vacation. What relaxes us? What renews our strength?

I’m relaxed when I play golf or cut my grass. These times also renew my strength to face the difficulties of the day. These are times away from the troubles and drama of the world. I also relax watching mindless TV (usually old shows with morals and values that match mine). What brings us renewed strength?

Today’s passage mentions renewing our strength. Here is it in partial context. Isaiah 40:28–31 – 28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. 29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

God is in the business of building us up and giving us renewed strength. God knows that the world will beat us up at times. As we have recently been preaching in our Peace and Assurance sermon series – God gives us many promises. Promises of protection – of peace – of salvation – of deepening faith. Promises that will renew us and give us strength to face the troubles of the world around us.

Life can be trying. Drama can be constant. Life can be hard at times. We are called to be faithful – to be available to be used by God. The Lord – the everlasting God – will strengthen the weary who serve Him – obey Him – and seek Him.

Often in my life I have had to find rest in our God as I know so many of our readers have as well. Let us keep our eyes on Jesus dear readers! The real source of rest and strength.

Just something for us to think about today as we go on our way.
