Love More And Have A Better Attitude

Romans 15:5

May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had…

I’ve written a number of posts over the years about attitude. I believe attitude is so very important – possibly essential in our Christian walk. One of my favorite sayings has to do with attitude and Christianity. It goes like this – Christianity boils down to attitude – the condition and position of one’s heart. But how do we improve our attitude toward someone – especially someone who has hurt us or who is unlikeable?

Our love for one another and our love for God – has a lot to do with our attitude. The Bible says that if we don’t have love then we have nothing – and we are nothing. 1 Corinthians 13:2 – If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. Having and expressing love – Christ-like love – is at the core of our faith.

We are called to imitate Christ and the love He showed us. Ephesians 5:1-2 – 1 Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children 2 and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. It is from this passage and others where the once popular phrase WWJD (what would Jesus do) was developed. What would Jesus do in a given situation and copy that response – which most often was a response from His love.

Jesus sums up the commandments with a heavy dose of love when He was asked about the greatest commandment. Mark 12:30-31 – 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’  31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

Today – and throughout the rest of our lives – we should be working on being more loving toward others – allowing the fruit of love to invade our very being. For some – that may be easier because it is your very nature to be loving. For some – this will be a tougher task – but it will help us produce a better attitude and will help us be a better witness for Christ. Whether easier or harder – expressing Christ-like love is essential for a good attitude.

It is hard to have a bad attitude toward someone we love. If we’re having a hard time with someone – having a hard time having a good attitude toward someone – we should pray for them and I believe our attitude toward them will change. Express Christ-like love toward that person – in our thoughts or in person – and see if it doesn’t change our attitude toward them.

Love one another – even as Christ loved us – and our attitudes will be better. I needed to write/read this today! How about you?

Just something for us to think about today as we go on our way.
