A Happy Face

Proverbs 15:13

A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit.

So how has your 2018 started? Did you make any New Year resolutions? It is January 2nd – have you broken any of them yet? I hope you last a little longer with any resolutions you made than the 2nd day of the year. What is your record?

What – if anything – have you decided to change in your life? What have we planned to do differently in the new year? Setting goals is important – because we all know – if you aim at nothing – you’re bound to hit it! What goals have you – have we – set?

Some of us with diet in the new year – with weight loss as a goal. Some of us will decide to work on our marriages – some of us on our walk with Jesus – some of us will plan to spend more time focused on our family. Still others will decide to budget and try to get our finances in order. Some will make plans to vacation in the new year – I know Carolyn and I are already making plans for our 40th wedding anniversary (in a year and a half).

My prayer for us is that we will have more to smile about in 2018 and less to cry about. Today’s passage says it all – Proverbs 15:13 – A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit.

Let’s decide – together – to strive for ways to lift our spirit and the spirit of others in 2018. Let us determine to encourage one another in 2018 rather than tear one another apart. The author of Hebrews reminds us about the last days and how the church should operate. Hebrews 10:23–25 – 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Let us not give up meeting together. Let us strive to encourage one another. Let us hold – unswervingly – to our faith in Jesus Christ. If these were three goals or resolutions for 2018 – we would be aiming at some really great goals.

My prayer is that 2018 will find us happy and with much joy in Jesus. Proverbs 15:13 – A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit.

Just something for us to think about today as we go on our way!
