Day 43 of Lent 2018

Matthew 26:14

Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot—went to the chief priests

Today is day 43 of the 47 Days of Lent reading plan (Sundays don’t count in the 40 days of Lent). I hope you have stayed with us – this is the final week – Holy Week. Today’s passage is about Judas and how he planned to spy on Jesus. Whether he was simply used by Satan – or was evil himself – or was simply trying to force Jesus’ hand to overtake Rome – he waited for an opportunity.

Lent is typically a time to give something up – to stop a bad habit – to deny self – to dig deeper into our walk with Jesus. Today we continue to look at some passages that will lead us to the cross and to the resurrection. Let us focus on Jesus this week – more than usual. Let us identify with the walk and the sacrifice Jesus made for each of us. Jesus came to earth – voluntarily – to walk to the cross. I cannot imagine how Judas could have turned Jesus over to the chief priests.

Here is today’s passage in partial context – Matthew 26:14–16 – 14 Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot—went to the chief priests 15 and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver. 16 From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.

During this Lenten season – make it a point to seek after Jesus more and more. Seek after Him. Understand – as well as we can – His walk and His suffering. Remember what He gave up for us. God bless you as you walk with Jesus to the Cross of Calvary! Connect with our Lord on every level possible. Seek what God would have you (and me) understand about this most Holy Week. The Father put the Spirit on Jesus – the Holy Trinity – as He walked on this earth (remember how the Spirit descended like a dove as Jesus was baptized?). There was a purpose for Jesus’ coming and it was for this week. Judas might have had other ideas – he might even have had what he thought were good ideas. Yet the Father’s plan – Jesus’ plan – was fulfilled.

Walk with me toward the cross. Deny yourself as I deny myself and let us draw near to Christ.

Just something for us to think about today as we go on our way.

P.S. – This Sunday will be Easter. It is the easiest Sunday to get someone to attend worship with you. Invite someone each day during Holy Week to join you for Sunday’s services. We will have a Sunrise service at 6:30 am followed by a pancake breakfast. Our normal services will be at 8:30 & 11:00 am. Invite someone today to worship with you.
