Day 45 of Lent 2018

Isaiah 53:5

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

Today is day 45 of the 47 Days of Lent reading plan (Sundays don’t count in the 40 days of Lent). It is also God Friday. I hope you have stayed with us during our reading plan this Lenten Season. We’re coming close to Easter and the end of Holy Week. Today’s passage is about the death of Christ – prophetically shared many centuries before Jesus was even born.

Lent is typically a time to give something up – to stop a bad habit – to deny self – to dig deeper into our walk with Jesus. How have you been doing? Today we continue to look at a passage that will lead us to the cross and later to the resurrection. Let us focus on Jesus this week – more than usual. Let us identify with the walk and the sacrifice Jesus made for each of us. Jesus came to earth – voluntarily – to walk to the cross. Today’s passage is about Jesus death and His healing power through His suffering.

Here is today’s passage in partial context. Isaiah 53:1–5 – 1 Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

During this Lenten season – make it a point to seek after Jesus more and more. Seek after Him. Understand – as well as we can – His walk and His suffering. Remember what He gave up for us. Remember His life – death – and resurrection. God bless you as you walk with Jesus to the Cross of Calvary! Connect with our Lord on every level possible. Seek what God would have you (and me) understand about this most Holy Week. Tonight I will watch The Passion of Christ once again. It will remind me of what Jesus did for me – how He suffered to pay for my sins. By His wounds we are healed!

Walk with me toward the cross. Deny yourself as I deny myself and let us draw near to Christ.

Just something for us to think about today as we go on our way.

P.S. – This Sunday is Easter. It is the easiest Sunday to get someone to attend worship with you. Invite someone each day during Holy Week to join you for Sunday’s services. We will have a Sunrise service at 6:30 am followed by a pancake breakfast. Our normal services will be at 8:30 & 11:00 am. Invite someone today to worship with you.
