Day 46 of Lent 2018

Romans 6:3

Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?

Today is day 46 of the 47 Days of Lent reading plan (Sundays don’t count in the 40 days of Lent). I hope you have stayed with us during our reading plan this Lenten Season. We’re coming close to Easter and the end of Holy Week. Tomorrow is Easter. But today is silent Saturday. It is the full day that Jesus was in the grave (partial day on Friday and partial day on Sunday).

Lent is typically a time to give something up – to stop a bad habit – to deny self – to dig deeper into our walk with Jesus. How have you been doing? Today we continue to look at a passage that will lead us to the cross and later to the resurrection. Let us focus on Jesus this week – more than usual. For those of us who have received Jesus as Lord and Savior – we have been baptized into Christ and into His suffering – into His death. We share with Him and He shares with us.

Here is today’s passage in partial context. Romans 6:3–11- Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—because anyone who has died has been set free from sin. 8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. 11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

During this Lenten season – make it a point to seek after Jesus more and more. Seek after Him. Understand – as well as we can – His walk and His suffering. Remember what He gave up for us. Remember His life – death – and resurrection. God bless you as you walk with Jesus to the Cross of Calvary! Connect with our Lord on every level possible. Seek what God would have you (and me) understand about this most Holy Week. Today is the day when His disciples thought all was lost. He died and was buried. Paul writes that we are to share in His death and in His suffering. Only when we do so will we share also in His resurrection. We need to die to self and do what God calls us to do – today above all days – when all seems lost.

Walk with me toward the cross. Deny yourself as I deny myself and let us draw near to Christ.

Just something for us to think about today as we go on our way.

P.S. – Tomorrow is Easter. It is the easiest Sunday to get someone to attend worship with you. Invite someone each day during Holy Week to join you for Sunday’s services. We will have a Sunrise service at 6:30 am followed by a pancake breakfast. Our normal services will be at 8:30 & 11:00 am. Invite someone today to worship with you.
