Seeking Wisdom During Our Prayer/Fast

James 1:5

If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

fullsizeoutput_ffeWisdom is something we should all seek after – shouldn’t we? Godly wisdom is something that God wants to give to us – generously – according to today’s passage. Why wouldn’t we seek after it? Why would we think we could survive on our own wisdom? Remember the last time we did…?

Godly wisdom is something we should seek after for sure. It is something I will be seeking after during our November Prayer/Fast. Wisdom to discern God’s will in my life would be amazing – but I will take whatever type of wisdom God wishes to share with me. As we seek God – I pray that we will also seek God’s will and wisdom in our lives.

On November 1st we will begin a month-long Prayer/Fast at First Church – seeking God’s will for ourselves and for our church family. In 10 days the Prayer/Fast will begin. I would like to invite you to join me in a daily reading on Wisdom for those 12 days. You can find this 12 day reading plan at https://www.bible.com/reading-plans/12303-discovering-wisdom. Of course – you can read whatever you wish – but we could all join in this study. You can sign up online or on your data device so you can follow along with the readings each day – or simply read this post daily and I will put up the information and make some comments as well. You can ask questions about the Prayer/Fast here – on my blog page (https://raymcdonald.wordpress.com/) – through e-mail (revray@fumcl.org) or at Ask The Pastor on Facebook.

I’m looking forward to this reading plan and to the month-long Prayer/Fast that is coming soon. May God touch our hearts and mold us into the men and women God desires. I know I need wisdom to be the husband – father – grandfather – and man of God that God desires. It could all start tomorrow! Join me.

Here’s today’s passage in partial context. James 1:2–12 – 2Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do. 9Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position. 10 But the rich should take pride in their humiliation—since they will pass away like a wild flower. 11 For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business. 12Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

Just something for us to think about today as we go on our way.
