Christmas Is Coming! But Don’t Worry!!

Matthew 6:34

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. NIV84

Life ChangeOver the years we have heard loads of catch phrases. Phrases like what – me worry or don’t worry – be happy have graced our airways over the years. The world knows all about worry and how many of us suffer with it. What is it that we are spending time worrying about today? Are we worrying about the economy (it seems to be doing well with a little room for error)? Are we worried about the elections past or the ones to come yet (two years till the next one)? Are we worried about where our next meal with come (many of us could miss a meal or two and be OK)?

Another translation of this passage reads this way – Matthew 6:34 – “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. ESV Apparently worry and anxiousness are akin – alike.

So what are we anxious about or worried about? Is it our health – let’s give it over to God. Is it our economics or lack thereof – let’s give it over to God. Is it a relationship – like our marriage or a friendship – let’s give it over to God. Is it the election – let’s give it over to God. Is it trouble in some way in our lives – let’s give it over to God. Are we anxious or worried about Christmas? As of yesterday – we have a whole month till it arrives – so let’s give it over to God.

Let me explain. Giving something over to God doesn’t mean we sit back and watch God. It doesn’t mean we will sit back and trust God to do it all for us. What it means is that as we strive to do our best – and doing our best is an important key – we will give our worry and anxiousness over to God.

Jesus said – Matthew 11:28-30 – 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” NIV84

As we pass Thanksgiving and approach another Christmas – and even another year end -let’s give thanks to God that He allows us a peace that passes all understanding. That God wants to help carry our burdens and make our way a little lighter for sure. Give thanks and worry less! Spend more time in prayer and seek God’s face and grace. Let God carry the load as we walk after Him!

Let’s not worry or be anxious. God has this! God is large and in-charge! God can handle all of our issues and carry us through them. Let’s not worry. Let’s enjoy our family and friends – work hard – and trust that God will help us through whatever we face in the days – weeks – months – and years to come. We don’t even need to worry about what will happen in February with our denomination – God has this! Really!!

Just something for us to think about today as we go on our way.
