Immeasurably More – God’s Love

Ephesians 3:20

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,

Life ChangeImmeasurably more! That is what the society wants us to want – more and more and more – every year! The Christmas shopping has become a contact sport on Black Fridays. Christmas sales start well before Thanksgiving to draw folks to the stores to purchase immeasurably more! Perfectly good products are jettisoned in order to buy the newest model (I’m updating the hard drives on my computers rather than buying new ones – they will speed up while being more economical than replacing them).

Scripture tells us that if we want immeasurably more – the only way to receive what really matters – is to seek after Jesus and the love that He shares with us. Read with me if you will: Ephesians 3:14-21 – 14 For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15 from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. 16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge — that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. 20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

Last Sunday we entered the church season called Advent – a season of anticipation. We will be remembering the greatest gift ever given – it came on Christmas Day. As we share the Word each week during Advent and Christmas we will remember when love came down at Christmas time as the song puts it!

If we want immeasurably more – we will ONLY receive what we seek if love is ever increasing in our lives. As Paul wrote: I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge — that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. This fullness – this immeasurably more – is only found through a deeper relationship with Jesus. It will not be found by buying more and more! I’m just saying! Immeasurably more can only be found in the love of God – not in things!

This coming Sunday we will examine the miracle of Christmas and the miracles that are still happening at Christmas time.
