Heartache Crushes the Spirit

Proverbs 15:13

A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit.

Has the lack of rain impacted your yard or garden plans (we haven’t had much rain at all since early July). Have you broken any hearts yet this fall? I hope your plans for the fall and into 2020 (which promises to be a year of much change) are all you’ve hoped.

What – if anything – have you decided to change in your life recently? What have we planned to do differently this fall and into 2020? Setting goals is important – because we all know – if you aim at nothing – you’re bound to hit it! What goals have you – have we – set? My daughter posted this: Don’t downgrade your dreams just to fit your reality. Upgrade your conviction to match your destiny.

Some of us diet on a regular basis – with weight loss as a goal. Some of us decide to work on our marriages – some of us on our walk with Jesus – some of us will plan to spend more time focused on our family. Still others will decide to budget and try to get our finances in order. Some will make plans to vacation this fall or in 2020 – I know Carolyn and I are making plans for our 40th wedding anniversary in 2020.

My prayer for us is that we will have more to smile about this fall and into 2020 and less to cry about. Today’s passage says it all – Proverbs 15:13 – A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit.

Let’s decide – together – to strive for ways to lift our spirit and the spirit of others this fall and into 2020. Let us determine to encourage one another rather than tear one another down. The author of Hebrews reminds us about the last days and how the church should operate. Hebrews 10:23–25 – 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Let us not give up meeting together. Let us strive to encourage one another. Let us hold – unswervingly to our faith in Jesus Christ. If these were three goals or resolutions for 2020 – as it approaches – we would be aiming at some really great goals. Think about your circle of friends. If each person in that circle strived this fall and into 2020 to meet often – encourage each other – and deepen their faith – what a world this would be.

My prayer is that the fall of 2019 and the year of 2020 will find us happy and with much joy in Jesus. Proverbs 15:13 – A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit. Heartache crushes the spirit – but joy in life and in Christ – lifts the spirit and blesses us and so many! Even with an election season upon us and rumors of a denominational split – lets focus on Jesus – encourage one another – and meet together to give God the glory!

Just something for us to think about today as we go on our way!
